As the sun sank below the horizon and the stench of blood and death came closer, it became clear that a fearful and deadly night was coming and along with it a horde of zombies and their unending hunger for the living...

Overview

Objective: Stay alive for the whole night.

The game takes place in a small cottage right outside the city. You can freely move around the house, but not leave it. Various kinds of infected zombies will continually barge in through multiple doors and attempt to turn you into one of them or rip you apart.

You finally managed to escape the massacre at the extraction zone, which happened as a horde of infected from the nearby city followed you and devoured the rest of your squad right before they could reach the chopper... but dusk already fell upon the land. Luckily, there's a small, seemingly empty cottage right outside of the city that could work as shelter.

The horde is still smelling and following you, thats only obvious - your way to fend them off is much less so. Your main weapon, a good old assault rifle ran out of ammo during prior fights and was only extra weight without ammo, so you dropped it during running. But due to a lack of material to barricade the house and its 3 doors with, all that remains useful for survival is your pistol, 3 magazines of 9 mm ammo and a suit of light armor, which is probably not enough to survive the night...

Glock 19C
Glock 19C

9 x 19 mm Ammunition
15 Round Capacity
1 Damage per Hit

2 Shot(s) per Second

Your standard issue sidearm and only remaining weapon with ammunition. The Glock 19C "Compact" is a simple and light pistol that utilizes the popular 9 x 19 mm Parabellum round, which makes it capable of fast and almost recoil-less firing while achieving moderate damage and stopping power per bullet.

Starting Ammunition: 45 Bullets

Steyr TMP

Steyr TMP

9 x 19 mm Ammunition
30 Round Capacity
1 Damage per Hit

5 Shot(s) per Second

A fast firing submachine gun found lying around empty in the house. The Steyr TMP is a very simplistic and small gun, just outsizing an average pistol while being capable of firing at far faster speeds and keeping recoil minimal. It also uses commonly found 9 x 19 mm ammunition and thus is a useful replacement for the Glock 19C pistol as the ammo is interchangeable.

Starting Ammunition: 30 Bullets

Mossberg 500
Mossberg 500
Mossberg 500

12 Gauge Ammunition
7 Round Capacity
2 x 8 Damage per Hit

1 Shot(s) per Second

A large and heavy shotgun, hidden away in the cottage to fend off whatever may attack the house and its owners. The Mossberg 500 is a commonly found shotgun used for riot control and home defense among other uses, due to its good reliability and its powerful 12 gauge ammunition. Its underbarrel magazine holds 6 rounds plus one in the chamber, each of which shoots 5 pellets doing 2 damage each. Due to its pellet based damage, the Mossberg can kill almost anything with a single shot at close range, although its slow and it less effective at longer ranges.

Starting Ammunition: 7 Shells

Your armor, a common kevlar based jacket is primarily designed to protect against projectile weapons, but it can be also helpful against the claws of the infected while it lasts.

Heals 25% of your Health
A typical medikit used to treat smaller wounds at work, when doing dangerous sports or in this case - after getting hurt during a zombie attack.

Infected

The zombies you will encounter in this minigame resemble early results of how the Nerotonin-4 virus warped humanity and turned them against each other in a bloody battle.

These infected show symptoms of photophobia and thus generally evade all kinds of light, although they might ignore this weakness if potential prey is nearby. This makes them primarily nocturnal hunters, meaning as long as you stay awake and prepared to fight off infected during the night, it should be relatively safe outside during daylight.

All zombies may or may not carry pistol or shotgun ammunition, medikits or the occasional weapon which can be picked up and used to increase your tiny chance of survival. The horde which will enter the house to devour you will gradually become stronger and more numerous until the Behemoth arrives and acts as the infected boss.

Infected
Zombie
5 Health Points
8 Damage
Your classic zombie - slow, still looking somewhat human yet hungry for your flesh. They don't pose much of an enemy as long as you keep them at a distance.
Crawling Zombie
5 Health Points
8 Damage
Just like it sounds, a normal zombie which was probably wounded and is now forced to crawl to its prey. Its essentially the same as the normal zombies, but it moves slightly slower and makes up an easier target.
Yellow Zombie
6 Health Points
8 Damage
This type of zombie has a green-yellowish look and they tend to run towards you all the time. Not too dangerous, but due to the lack of space in the house, they can quickly encircle you if you aren't careful.
Red Zombie
6 Health Points
8 Damage
A dangerous and fast zombie stained with both the blood of himself and his enemies. They sprint at anything in sight that isn't infected and tend to appear in groups, so kill them off as quickly as they come to stay safe.
Behemoth
??? Health Points
18 Damage
Beastly, bloody and angered are the best words to describe this muscular monster. Its hard to miss his entry as the ground shakes while he walks towards you and he will equally shake and rip your body apart if you let him come too close. Keep this guy out of melee range at all times with whatever you can shoot him, as he is sturdy as a rock and it takes a good deal of effort to down this bloody behemoth of an infected.

Reception

The game was almost universally well received. On most websites it was posted on it received 4/5s and 8/10s. A major complaint was the lack of a pause button, the lack of variety of weapons and the lack of difficulty settings. The continuation of the "Night" demos addressed all these issues.

This game's story continues in the sequel Dead Frontier Night Two "Survival". You're welcome gamers.
