So back in January I announced a new game we're publishing for a developer friend of mine titled March of the Living. Here is the old post in case you're curious:
[https://www.blogger.com/goog_1262066465 ] http://fairview.deadfrontier.com/onlinezombiemmo/index.php?topic=889852.0
Luckily we managed to find three great event designers from the Dead Frontier community (Lys, Clayton and Roxas13) and the game is now getting close to completion.
We've just posted it up on Steam Greenlight here: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=605952563
If you guys could find the time to give us Yes vote it would be much appreciated. Also if you have any comments or questions about the game the game feel free to post here and I'll do my best to answer them. Thanks guys :-)

I'm just writing to let you know that the maximum level possible in Dead Frontier has just been raised to 325. For every level after 220 you will receive 1 proficiency point. In addition once you hit level 325 you'll get lifelong access to the new X-Dusk gear and 4 extra implant slots, making a total of 16.
I know you guys have been waiting for this update for a quite a while, so thanks for being so patient. :-)
Stay tuned for news of more Dead Frontier updates coming soon!

It's finally here!
I'm proud to announce that the Dead Frontier: Wastelands update is now live. If you're level 100 or over you can visit the Wastelands by travelling to the new brown area of the map located just below Precinct 13. This area is something completely new for Dead Frontier, a place where end-game players will face their ultimate challenge.
Although loot spots are scarce in the Wastelands, your chances of finding something good are far higher. Each time you loot you'll have an 8x higher chance of finding a level 120 weapon, armour or implant than you would in the southern end-zone. You also will not find lower level 'junk' loot here. On top of this you'll receive 25% more EXP for every point of damage you inflict on the enemy.
The Wastelands feature huge hordes of infected well beyond anything you've seen in DF previously. These hordes are made up four brand new types of mutation that'll be sure to keep you on your toes. And if that wasn't bad enough you'll also face several boss tier enemies mixed in with the normal infected. If you're really unlucky you'll come face to face with the "Devil Hound", a super tough boss creature which at the time writing this, 3 days after release, nobody has managed to kill yet. Could you be the first?
In the Wastelands PvP is mandatory and you'll earn approximately 10x more points than you would in the arena. This means you'll need to be extra vigilant for those seeking your head. The good news is you cannot hit members of your own clan, which means team-work will be the key to surviving this warzone.
So if you haven't logged in for a while I implore you to come back and give the Wastelands a look. It really is a lot of fun and great challenge for hardcore players.

In the past couple of weeks I've made some fairly major changes to Dead Frontier. You can now play the game with the much improved stand-alone client, I've blocked most hacks/cheats/exploits and I've launched some new types of bosses. However this just the tip of the iceberg in terms of updates I've got planned during the next few months. Here are just some of them:
Dusk Prices (get the bad news out of the way first I say!) These will be increased fairly soon, especially the Ultra Boost. If you are thinking about getting any of these soon I recommend doing it in the next week or so.
Clan Upgrades The owner of a clan can exchange their victory points for bonuses which will extend to the entire clan. So for example, 100 victory points might buy a +1% EXP bonus for every clan member. This is long overdue and will therefore be implemented very soon.
The Wasteland Rather than simply extending the existing city, I've decided to make a brand new type of area altogether. The Wastelands will be a large patch of desolate arid terrain designed to be the ultimate survival challenge for elite Dead Frontier players. Loot spots in the Wastelands will be few and far between, but the rewards will be far greater. There will be no large outposts, so barricading will be an absolute necessity (dying will no longer return you to a main outpost). PVP will be forced on, and PvP points earned here will be greater than anywhere else. Truely gigantic zombie hordes (made possible by the faster client) will roam the Wastelands, making the ultimate challenge for hardcore players.
Implants These are a new type of item that will grant bonuses in a similar way to drugs (such as bonus exp, damage, speed etc). Simply having them in your inventory will allow you get the benefits which will add together. So for example if you have ten +1% Damage implants in your inventory then you'll get +10% damage on top of any other bonuses you already have. Similar bonuses will be made available for improving loot chances/amounts (Ie +1% Cash). Obviously you'll need to balance the need for a stronger character with inventory space. Implants will be both lootable and used as rewards for the various Dusk competitions.
New Arenas I'm planning to add some new arena locations that will cycle during the day to add some more variety.
I have not listed any time scales here since I am notoriously bad at estimating them. However I am secretly hoping to have this all ready before Halloween (aka Christmas :P)

So as you are all probably aware by now, Google Chrome is ending support for the old Unity webplayer in the next few days. It is also rumoured that other browsers are likely to follow suit in the next few years, potentially leaving DF unplayable.
In response to this the obvious choice was to convert Dead Frontier to use Unity's new WebGL technology, which would of allowed us to continue running DF in the browser. However after spending a lot of time on the process I soon came to realize that WebGL really isn't viable in the short term. Support for various features across browsers is heavily fragmented and the performance was quite simply horrible.
Had I of forged ahead with WebGL I'd probably be presenting Chrome users today with a massively dumbed down version of the game, lacking key features such as multiplayer. It would probably be full of bugs and run hideously slowly on even fast PCs. It would also mean that Dead Frontier would still be totally at the mercy of the browser developers, who could at any moment decide to drop support for certain features and subsequently cause us tons of headaches.
Therefore I've decided to simply make the Dead Frontier client available as a downloadable. The benefits of this are:
- Way better performance than even the existing webplayer version - Far more stable, you'll encounter far less random crashes - Easily change screen resolution and controls to your liking - Wastes less bandwidth as the game is stored on your PC at all times - Regardless of what browser developers do, DF will keep working
There are no plans to scrap the existing webplayer for those of you who still prefer to play in the browser. However you will need to use a non-chrome browser for the time being. At some point I will convert Dead Frontier to use WebGL as well, but I'm guessing this will need to be a couple of years down the road when the technology has matured enough to run DF properly.

Community: Secronom Bunker missions have arrived!
When the update was released over a month ago, Admin has stated that missions were currently being worked on. Today, these missions has been released for those staying in the Bunker to take on.
Take a gender with the first known Bunker Mission: Firearm Shortage. Given to you by an unnamed Scientist, the Bunker's defense forces are low on weaponry and it's up to you to retrieve a shipment of guns from a nearby military camp.
This Christmas I'll be releasing a new limited edition item; the Mystery Box into the Credit Shop, and it will cost 1,200 credits (1,000 for GMs)
Since this box is a little different to other items I normally release, I'm going to give it a proper explanation. I've tried to make sure that this Mystery Box is both fun, whilst also providing real value for money. I want to make sure all you guys understand exactly what you are buying before you part with your hard-earned credits.
Essentially when you open it, you have a random chance to get either:
- A random level 120 prof weapon
- A random level 75 repair armour
- A GAU-19
Below is a full list of items, and the exact chance you have of finding one inside. In addition I've listed what I consider to be the correct market value of the item at the time of posting. You can see that based on the value of the item, and the chance of finding it, that on average you will receive an item worth 1,611 credits. This means you're effectively getting a 38% discount if you are GM.
|Item||Chance||Approx Credit Value|
|Street Dog 99||4.545%||1,200|
|Ace Barrel GZ3||4.545%||2,000|
Note: Don't forget, the GAU-19 is the most likely to appear because it has 2 chances out of 22. The others are all 1 chance out of 22.
I hope that this all makes sense, and that you agree this works out to be good value for money. Enjoy!
Stay tuned for new missions and the xmas event announcement in the next few days

"Unfortunately Dead Frontier has been affected by a large, distributed denial of service attack for the past 2-3 days straight. Some of you may have noticed the downtime that this has caused the game. This attack is approximately 100 times bigger than any we have dealt with in the past and is therefore proving a big challenge to us.
Niosop and I have been working hard on a solution. We had hoped to have completely eradicated the threat by now, but it's proving a lot more difficult than we first thought. Although we believe the worst is behind us, there may still be some minor hiccups over the weekend. The less essential parts of the site such as chat & multiplayer mode may experience some longer periods of downtime as we focus on protecting the core gameplay.
I am aware some of you may have lost significant time on your drug purchases. Unfortunately due to the complex and sporadic nature of the downtime it would be very hard to verify who had, and who had not genuinely lost out. Therefore I will be upgrading this weekend's event to an ultra boost. I hope this will go some way to making up for whatever losses you have encountered.
Sorry for the fail ladies and gents,"

UPDATE #2: (18/09/2014): I'm sorry to say that the updates are still not ready. As my wife reached the last month of pregnancy she had some complications and was put on bed rest, leaving me to look after our two other boys most of the time. Unfortunately this did slow my pace somewhat. I'm pleased to say the baby has now arrived, but as I'm sure you can all imagine, it will be another couple of weeks before I can fully devote myself to getting these updates finished. I think we are now looking at a completion time sometime in October.
However, I'm confident that the update will turn out to be worth the wait. As I've gone along I've continued to expand my plans and it's shaping up to be an exciting addition to the DF universe.
One thing I'd like to note is that I am now planning to release all the updates in a single large batch rather than in a piecemeal fashion. I came to the conclusion that everything will work together far better as a unified expansion of the game world.
Thanks to you all for being so patient
UPDATE: (25/08/2014): As I'm sure you've all noticed I am currently behind schedule with the updates. Right now I'm still working on the Inner City changes but unfortunately I don't expect to have these finished until early or even mid September now.
However, one thing I'd like to bring up is that my wife is currently pregnant with my 3rd son and he is due in mid September. If he decides to come early there is quite a high possibility this will delay things further. I'll still be putting in a couple hours a day once he arrives, but much more than this will be difficult. Therefore many of the planned updates might not be finished until October.
After being primarily occupied with Doom Warrior for the past couple of years I'm finally returning to work on Dead Frontier full-time. I think we can all agree that the game is in need of some TLC. Here is what I have planned for release in the next 6 weeks or so.
Clan System - ETA Late July 2014 (for GMs) This has been one of the most requested features in Dead Frontier's history, and I can only apologize that I didn't implement it sooner. I have been working on it solidly for the past couple of weeks and plan to have it finished before the end of the month (July 2014). If you've seen how clans work in Doom Warrior then you'll have some idea of the way in which DF's clan system will work. Essentially Clans will have their own weekly competitions for surviving and gaining PvP points. The winning clan(s) will have access a unique set of rewards.
Please Note: Gold Members will have access to clans 2 weeks before other players. Extended Inner City & New Enemies - ETA Mid August 2014 The Inner City map will be extended with a ton of new areas to explore. These areas will be populated by several new types of enemy and bosses. These more difficult areas will of course have improved looting chances compared to the older parts of he city.
New Equipment - ETA Late August 2014 Dozens of new weapons and pieces of armour will be added to the game, a large proportion of which will be lootable in the newer Inner City areas.
New Outpost & Missions - ETA Late August 2014 Since traveling so far away from outposts can be a tedious task, a brand new outpost will be created in close proximity to these new areas. The new outpost will also have it's own unique set of missions with improved rewards. I'd like to take this moment to apologize to everyone who has been waiting for updates to DF for so long. I plan to make up for it and then some over the next year.
Please Note: The above ETAs are just estimates for when I plan to have each feature complete by. Judging the length of project is a skill which I am far from mastering, so delays are quite possible. I will however endeavour to do my very best to keep to these timescales.

The new items will begin appearing in the Credit Shop a few days later."
January 14, 2013
My plan was to have the new equipment released by now. But as usual things haven't gone according to plan and it has taken a little longer, both in terms of programming and artwork. Unfortunately I am leaving for Russia on the 17th to visit my wife's family. The last couple years I've stayed home while my wife and kids made the trip, in order to focus on work instead. Unfortunately it's been such a long time since I've seen my in-laws that I feel I cannot miss this trip. Whilst I probably could rush and have everything released on the 16th, I don't think it's worth the risk. During any update there are always bugs and problems, more so if I'm rushing. While I'm away I won't have access to my entire set of development tools, so fixing things there will be very difficult. Therefore I will be delaying the new equipment until after I return at the start of February. I'd also like to take this opportunity to warn everybody that along with the release of new equipment, I'll also be releasing a new tier of food, meds and ammunition. The idea is that then new food and medical items will be required for any player over level 80. In order to cook and administer these meds, level 75 Doctors and Chefs will also be required. So, the game will change quite drastically for a while. Be prepared!"

As stated on the Development Blog:
- “I'm just writing to let you all know that I'm still alive, and that Dead Frontier will be a getting another large update in the next month or so. Here is what I'm working on right now:
- New Missions. I'm looking to add total of around 60 new missions to the game. In addition, there will be two new missions per day rather than just the one that happens currently. I apologise that these have been such a long time coming.
- Larger Inner City with a new, much harder end zone.
- Increased level cap. The new maximum level will be 220, allowing players to completely max out their stat points.
- A massive range of new standard (non limited edition) equipment. Everything from weapons & armour to purely cosmetic items. We're looking at close to 100 new pieces in total.
- Various improvements & updates to the weekly Top PvP and Top Survivor competitions.
- Dead Frontier: Outbreak 3 :D
- A bunch of general bug fixes and optimizations to the game client.“

The game experienced a lond period of downtime. As compensation, all boosts purchased during the last 30 hours will be refunded and an additional double EXP event is on. Full update:
- “As some of you may be aware, we recently had a large period of downtime (just over 11 hours). Sad I know you are all very frustrated about this and I totally understand. Please accept my sincerest apologies.
Essentially we rent our servers inside a large, fully staffed datacenter. Unfortunately a router at this datacenter broke down, and this caused all of the machines we had there to lose their outside internet connectivity. All we could do is wait while the staff at the datacenter tried to fix the problem. Unfortunately it took them 11 hours to fix it in the end.
We did consider the option of restoring from our latest offsite backup and spinning up a server in another datacenter. Unfortunately this backup was just over an hour out of date. Essentially if we restored this backup, anything players did in the last couple of hours would be erased. That means all loot, exp etc would be lost. We came to the conclusion that it was better to simply have a longer period of downtime, but with no player losses, than to have a shorter one with the rollback. To be honest, I think we made the right choice.
I have just refunded any credits spent on speed boosts, damage boosts or exp boosts in the last 30 hours in order to ensure that nobody is too badly out of pocket over this downtime.
In addition the next 24 hours will be a double exp period, in order to help make up for this loss.
Once again I'm very sorry this happened and I hope it didn't ruin your plans too badly.“

Full interior and barricading have been released:
- “Title says it all really. Everyone can now access interiors and barricading, plus we now have a total of 31 different building types to explore. :-)
Plus, what's extra cool about this is that I wasn't late. I said 10 days, and it was exactly 10 days. Solid proof that I don't *always* operate on valve time! Rejoice!“

Plans for releasing interiors have been disclosed:
My plan was to release a handful of basic interiors sometime tomorrow, which I could still do. However, these interiors really are very simple (only one floor, very sparse design-wise etc) and there are still a fair few bugs I need to work out. Honestly I think you guys would be very disappointed if you saw these. Therefore, I've decided to delay things another week so that I can least get most of the bugs figured out, get the multiple floor system finalized and make them look a bit more interesting.
Here is my release plan:
1. Some interiors towards the end of next week. I'm aiming to have about 5 different building designs complete. This will be a GM only release.
2. Approximately 1 week later, I will release the barricading and personal outpost system for GMs.
3. Another 1-2 weeks later, I will release the full interior and barricading system for everyone. We should have about 35 building designs, each with a lot of random variations. And of course, all bugs should be completely ironed out by then, based on GM feedback.
