POEMS

IN THE MIDST OF SUFFERING

At dawn they returned from the mission
their soaky clothes torn
and approached the outpost
their arms marked by scratches
their legs full of wounds
but on their brows

there was not a sign of despair

The whole day and night just passed
they had to brave the horrendous infected
in the storm all the time
between ripped bodies
and tiny pieces of bones and flesh
desperately looking for Chief Jackson`s
lost wife that was never found

They were born amidst hardship
and grew up without a sigh or a complaint
now they are in the gambling den, making
jokes while betting their reward

Meaning:

This poem was remade from the original piece titled "In the Midst of hardship". This poem tells us about the survivors who came back from the mission known as "Family First" in Precinct 13. Their soaky clothes indicates that they had been in the rain throughout the mission. "Their arms marked by scratches" indicate that they were injured during mission. "Their legs full of wounds" = Spider bites. The second stanza describes their condition when succeeding the mission. The last stanza shows the survivors are joyfully communing while betting away their reward from the mission.
